Circular route not very physically demanding, but of great landscape beauty. The route runs, in principle, through slightly open areas, but little by little we go into thick and diverse forests of oak, chestnut. We will enjoy gentle ascents and descents among several populations except the one that goes up to the highest point of the route, although the continuous and interspersed descents will give us some rest. The reward is to come when we begin the descent to Lake Sanabria and we can observe, that if always between large trees and all mountains, with dense forests, that surround it. The largest glacial lake of the Iberian Peninsula. We will cross, by bridges of wood and stones, rivers and tributaries that make up sites of great beauty. Already in another traditional road and visiting the last villages we will return to our starting point. View File

Profile 500 Ruta Peña Alta

Circular route, physically demanding, in which we can enjoy the ascent of the Tera river, approaching its shore repeatedly. The Tera is a trout river and that means very clean and transparent waters and paths according to the season full of flowers or in winter time with ice formations of great beauty. A few kilometers away we will leave the river sidewalk to go to the Sanabresa gorge that the large flocks of sheep use to spend the summer in the mountains. We alternate stretched climbs and shortly descend towards Truchas River, a river that gives life to the Sotillo Waterfalls, considered one of the most beautiful excursions for hikers. From here the area is flatter, not flat, and open that will lead us back to Puebla de Sanabria.

Profile 200 Arroyo de la Mondera
We leave Puebla de Sanabria to continue for several kilometers along the road to Santiago Sanabrés. Almost parallel to the Castro River we headed, without difficulties, towards the second mountain range, perhaps the most beautiful and leafy in Sanabria. With very thick forests that behind each bush, tree or rocks, some imposing, will make the trip endless pleasant surprises in the form of almost intact and wild nature. Every little kilometer we will enter the villages with streets formed by rows of houses, numerous balconies and stone stairs that make up a very clear influence of Galician architecture. The passage through a beautiful bridge over the stream of the Mondera will make more than one want to take that beautiful place in a camera forever. Physically it is not very demanding, but surely at the end of the 32 km. Our body will feel fatigue due to the different types of terrain. View File
